Chicago-- on the fan side of the glass
I've been following minor league hockey as a season ticket holder since the Chicago Wolves won the first Calder Cup. The hockey blog takes an attitude of the fan in the stands. The other blogs have their own attitude. So, sit down, shut up and read the blogs... I'm currently reading In Search of the Pachen Lama. Some of the other books I've read that weren't trash include Simon Schama's history of the American Revolution and his three part history of Britain, Seabiscuit and The Game. My current favorite music is "They'll be good yet," by Kitty Hayes. About my most influential books: We just finished this fantastic outdoor "room." The connection to books is that the idea of rooms in an outdoor setting was introduced to me by Edward Bennett and his design for Grant Park in Chicago. (Any Chicago citizen should also recognize the influences of Daniel Burnham and Frederick Olmstead on their thinking about space). A further influence on the room design (outdoors) was by the author Henry Glassie in his study, Passing the Time in Ballymenone and The Third Place by Ray Oldenburg.
